Every month we show what is on our reading table.
- “Atomic Habits” by James Clear.
- “Win Bigly” by Scott Adams.
- “The Encyclopedia of Commercial Real Estate Advice” by Terry Painter.
- “That Summer in Paris” by Morley Callaghan.
- “Grover Cleveland, A Study in Character” by Alyn Brodsky.
- “His Majesty’s Ship” by Alaric Bond.
- “The One Year Bible” with help from the “Lutheran Study Bible“.
Comments on current reads:
- “Atomic Habits” by James Clear: This has been on my reading table for over a year. I cannot quite finish it (p224 if 306). I prefer “The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business” by Charles Duhigg on the subject of habits. James’ exposition is not quite as ‘Clear’ as Duhigg’s.
- “Win Bigly” by Scott Adams. This was also on my reading table for almost a year. Not because I did not like it, but because I got burned out on all things politics and you know who (coughTrumpcough). This is a great book; highly recommended. I did finish it and will FloatingBookReview it.
- “The Encyclopedia of Commercial Real Estate Advice” by Terry Painter. Still in work. The few times I dipped into it; I was impressed.
- “That Summer in Paris” by Morley Callaghan. I bought this book more than 12 years ago:
Note that back in 2006, they had a day of mourning, no postal service, for President Gerald Ford!
I really enjoyed this book and not only because of my interest in Earnest Hemingway, Scott Fitzgerald and the entire “Lost Generation” in Paris in the ‘20s.
Morley Callaghans’ story in interesting independent of the Lost Generation connection. If you interested in that, or those time, the book is highly recommended. Also note that there is an updated version with better cover art in my opinion.
5. “Grover Cleveland, A Study in Character” by Alyn Brodsky. This is for an upcoming project. Note that the book is listed used on Amazon for $86.
6. “His Majesty’s Ship” by Alaric Bond. I have read ALL of the British Navy historical novels set in the Napoleonic Era. This is book 1 of a new series by Alaric Bond. He must be the brother of James with a name like “Alaric”. If you like that sort of stuff, this is great. The battle scenes were among the best I have read. The book could use some help tying together the character development in the first half with the battle in the second. But highly recommended and I will be reading book 2; “The Jackass Frigate”.
7. “The One Year Bible” with help from the “Lutheran Study Bible“.
And Greg Hanson who inspired me to document my reading informed me that this is an additional chapter of the “Almanack of Naval Ravikant” available online for free. I will add this to the list and update the FloatingBookReview of the “Almanack of Naval Ravikant”.
