Our offer on the house in Laveen was accepted and we did our preliminary walkthrough and formal home inspection on Monday.

On Wednesday, our property manager Sherman, stopped by to take a look.

He called me and asked, “When was the last time you were at the house?”
I replied, “I was there at noon on Monday with Kevin, our home inspector. Why?”
He asked, “When you were here, was the place all shot up? With bullet holes all over?”
I replied, “No, I think I would have noticed that.”
He said, “Well, it is now. Even the windows.”
I said, “News to me. Other than that, what did you think of the place?”

On Thursday, Jeff and I visited to assess the situation.

This raises a lot of issues. We don’t know anything about the previous tenants, so we have no idea what this is all about. And it wasn’t one or two bullets that might be a random shooting. There are 35 separate impact points; large caliber bullets; well positioned. Is, or will, it be a one-time occurrence?

If we do buy this house, rent it out and this happens again with injuries or worse; what are the legal liability issues, disclosure requirements, ethical and moral issues involved? Do we want to be involved in this type of situation? Remember, there is more to life than financial gain.

Lots of questions going forward!
